On 18-19 June, we celebrated the symposium “30 Years of macromolecular crystallography in Barcelona” in honor of the 65th birthday of Prof. Ignasi Fita from our unit. Around 100 people attended at the symposium: colleagues, former members and actual members of his lab and Structural Biology Unit and friends joined to pay tribute to him.
The Symposium programme included outstanding scientists as speakers from around the world that had been collaborating with Ignasi’s at some moment of his career. Speakers mixed science with personal experiences in their presentations. Audience was very participative and very interesting debates took place during the symposium.
At the end of the meeting, Ignasi took the opportunity to thank assistants, speakers and organizers for the symposium. He also made some reflections: “I am very happy to see that lot of people I met or taught during my career continue doing science”. “Since we started, science in Spain improved a lot, but there is still a lot to do. We need more investments to be competitive”, Ignasi said.
Professor Ignasi Fita has a long and successful career in the field of macromolecular crystallography. He is professor at Consejo de Investigaciones Científicas and leads the group Oxidative Stress Systems at the Structural Biology Unit.
